People have a morbid fear of snakes, just a mere mention of the word snake is sometimes, enough to freak people out. Hollywood has capitalized on the fear of snakes and has made many movies like 'Anaconda' to reap rich benefits. This philosophy of fear has made the general population term snakes as evil, and people just want to kill them on sight.Contrary to popular belief, snakes play a major role in the eco system, they keep the rodent population under control. Like all animals, snakes hunt only to feed themselves and not for pleasure. Most of the snake species are non venomous and pose no threat to humans. The poisonous species of snakes use their venom to kill prey, and not as a self-defense mechanism. All this information is useful to dispel some of the myths concerning snakes.Snakes are mother nature's version of pest control, in the wild they keep the rodent population under check. Snakes also eat frogs, lizards, and small birds, so, if we kill snakes the population of these animals and birds will grow exponentially, leading to many problems. Many snakes, like the garter snake eat insects that can cause a lot of harm to our crops. Snakes are camouflage hunters, which means they will try to merge with their surroundings to hide their presence from their prey. Snakes will often seek refuge under leaves and branches to camouflage their presence. One of the tactics employed by snakes to stay out of reach of predators is to hide in confined spaces. One of the most favored hiding space of snakes is under a rock, their physical structure allows them to crawl under the tiniest of openings. Since they are cold-blooded reptiles, they will often seek refuge under things which will help them maintain their body temperature. One of the best way to keep snakes away, is to mow you lawns regularly as snakes love to hide in the grass. If you want to know how to get rid of snakes in your yard rake leaves from your garden so that you don't have any dead leaves lying around. Leaves offer excellent camouflage for snakes and if you take away the snakes hiding spots, they will relocate somewhere else.If you have rock piles or wood lying around your property, you are inviting snakes to hide under it. Do not keep any stones or pieces of wood around the yard, snakes love to hide under stacks of wood and stones. Keeping junk metal, steel or any other clutter is an open invitation to snakes, so make sure you do not have any unused things stacked up.Rats are snakes favorite prey, they will follow them in your house and in your living room if required. The rat snake is the most common snake species found across the United States and Canada. If you have a rat infestation, calling your local pest control guys is a good idea. Regular use of rat poison to keep rats off your property is also important to keep snakes away.Snakes have a keen sense of smell, they use their tongue to get a sense of smell and taste and they use it effectively to follow rats and other prey. People use moth balls to keep of snakes, this is not very effective as the smell can wear off after some time. The use of garlic to keep snakes away is also based on the theory that it's odor will keep snakes away. The long-term effectiveness of both these methods is questionable, and moth balls also emit toxic fumes which are not good for humans.Another way of keeping snakes away is to tie up your garbage bags properly before putting them in trash cans. If you have bird feeders on your grounds, make sure the feed does not litter the ground. Loose garbage or bird feed will attract rodents and snakes will follow the rodents.

A porcupines is a type of rodent that cannot move fast and has a relatively large body. Hence, without their unique system of defense―the sharp, spiny quills that characterize them―they would have been literally easy meat for any predator. Their name has been derived from the Middle French word 'porc d'épine', which means 'thorny pig'.Where are Porcupines Found? Porcupines are commonly found in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America. The ones that occur in North and South America are very good climbers, and can be found spending a lot of time up in the trees, foraging for food. Some of them are even equipped with prehensile tails that help them grip branches. The porcupines that are found in Africa, Asia, and Europe inhabit forests, grasslands, and deserts, and are mostly terrestrial.Physical Features Porcupines can belong to any of the 27 rodent species of the families Hystricidae or Erethizontidae, and all of them have the sharp spines for defending themselves. It is the third largest amongst rodents, after the capybara and the beaver. This animal can vary in size to quite a great extent. For example, while the African porcupine can weigh up to 20 kg and more, the Rothschild's porcupine that occurs in South America hardly weighs a kilogram, usually less than that.Basically, there are 11 types of porcupines that are found in Africa, Asia, and Europe. These tend to be quite large in size, with their quills bunched in clusters. There are 12 types that occur in North and South America, which are usually smaller in size, with their quills growing singly instead of occurring in clusters. However, the North American porcupine can weigh up to 18 kg, and measure up to 33 inches, or 85 cm, in length, which can have as many as 30, 000 quills, and large front teeth which they use to gnaw on the bark of trees. The fur can range from yellowish-brown, to gray, and sometimes even white. The body is rounded in shape, with a small head, and small ears. Its legs are short and strong. And, of course, the porcupine's most identifiable feature is its quills. The quills are basically modified hair which it has right from birth. They are solid at the base and the tip, with the shaft being mostly hollow. The tips of these quills have microscopic barbs that face backwards. The quills occur in every part of the body, apart from the stomach, with the shortest of them occurring on its cheeks and the longest on its rump.Contrary to common misconception, they cannot throw their quills to impale a predator, or a person. A predator has to actually come in contact with the animal, however slightly, before they dislodge and get embedded into the skin. This means, it is only when this slow-moving, near-sighted, clumsy creature is provoked, or feels threatened, that it will shuffle clumsily, turning its back towards the source of the threat, prick up its quills, and lash its tail towards the predator or threat.Once a quill does get lodged into the tissue of a predator, it gets pulled even further inside by the barbs due to the movements of the muscles of the predator. It can get pulled in by several millimeters per day, and death can be caused due to the penetration as well as infection. However, the porcupine, by nature, is a docile creature, and uses its quills only in self-defense. Certain animals, e.g. the fisher, are quite adept at attacking porcupines despite their quills. What do Porcupines Eat? Porcupines are herbivores, and hence, their diet comprises leaves, green plants such as clover and skunk cabbage, fruits, springtime buds, and so on. Those that climb trees also eat the bark of trees.Breeding Habits The mating season is late summer and the early part of fall. They are usually very vocal when it is the mating season, with males fighting over females. Part of the mating ritual involves the male performing an elaborate dance and spraying urine on the female. The female gives birth, usually to a single offspring, around 7 months after the mating. At birth, the quills of the baby are soft, which harden in an hour or so. The baby porcupine begins foraging for food in a just a day or two, although it remains with its mother for around 6 months.

About Aqualyte & Ionyte Let me prepare you with a quote from Pericles “sometimes the truth is so unbelievable, it escapes becoming known” AquaLyte™ is a sachet (miniature tea bag) containing specially processed coral granules that are gathered from the ocean floor without harm to the reef. AquaLyte™ has the very same minerals found to be at the source of the extraordinary coral water in Okinawa. Our bodies not only need the right size (ionic) minerals for our cells, but also a vast array of minerals, and AquaLyte™ provides both. The proprietary processing of AquaLyte™ keeps all 72 vital minerals in an “ionically charged” state. When the sachet is added to water the minerals release immediately and the water is transformed into “healthy water” within minutes. Drinking AquaLyte™ mineral rich water gently helps the body rid itself of toxins and helps to support your body’s proper pH balance. Now you can have the kind of water that the people of Okinawa drink, which is attributed to their excellent health and longevity…..without the trip to Japan! You will never want to drink “ordinary water” again Ionyte™ is a powerful “electrolyte” of 70 ionic minerals and organic plant complexes. Organic plant complexes contain the basic “building blocks” that plants use to create the nutrients in fruits and vegetables. These complexes would have been in our fruits and vegetables had they been grown in mineral rich soil. Since most of our food is grown in mineral deficient soils, our food is deficient in these complexes as well. These “building blocks” are also used by our cells for their various processes. Adding Ionyte™ to your drinking water helps to make up for what’s missing in our food. It is also treated with a proprietary “energizing” process to further enhance its benefits. Some have referred to it as “liquid acupuncture”. It also helps support energy levels without the side effects of caffeinated drinks. Ionyte™ actually makes water “wetter”, and therefore more hydrating, by changing the molecular structure of the water.Ionyte™ is designed to work best in water, but can be added to any liquid. It can also be used topically.
